The Department of the Navy (DON), established in 1798 and part of the Department of Defense, manages the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps. Led by the Secretary of the Navy (SECNAV), it oversees naval aviation, surface ships, submarines, and specialized forces to maintain maritime freedom.
